photo of pygmy seahorse Hippocampus bargibanti in Solomon Islands

Portrait of a Pygmy Seahorse

At only 2cm long, the pygmy seahorse (Hippocampus bargibanti) is almost perfectly camoflauged against the backdrop of a like-colored sea fan.  The amber glow of a guide’s dive light helps distinguish the seahorse from its background,  revealing its location.  This photo was taken at a depth of 86 feet at Tanavula Point in the Florida Island group, Solomon Islands.
